Federal Funding Awarded to Participate in the Environmental Assessment of the Proposed Bruce Power New Nuclear Power Plant Project

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has awarded a total of $175,000 to five applicants in support of their participation in the environmental assessment process of the proposed Bruce Power New Nuclear Power Plant Project in the municipality of Kincardine, Ontario.
The funding recipients are Power Workers Union, Citizens For RenewableEnergy, Northwatch Coalition for Environmental Protection, Greenpeace Canada and Eugene Bourgeois.
This phase II funding is being made available to help successful applicants review the proponents Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) or prepare for and participate in the public hearings that will be announced at a later date. Phase I funding of $50 000 was allocated in August 2007 to assistrecipients in reviewing the draft Guidelines for the EIS.A Funding Review Committee, independent of the review panel, reviewed the requests and provided recommendations on available funding.
