Pöyry awarded nuclear and renewable energy strategy project in Saudi Arabia
Thursday, Jun 10, 2010
Pöyry has been appointed by KA-CARE (King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy) to help prepare a draft of the national vision and high-level strategy in the area of nuclear and renewable energy applications for Saudi Arabia and help define KA-CARE's strategy, operating model, key short and longer term priorities, and the immediate initiatives and action plan.
Saudi Arabia has increasing needs for power and water, and nuclear and renewable energy with desalination will be key future technologies. Creating a balanced mix of non-fossil fuel energy is of strategic importance for the country's long term prosperity and energy security.
The very low life-cycle emissions of CO2 make nuclear power an increasingly viable alternative in the energy production mix. Pöyry is one of the world's leading independent engineering consultants in the nuclear sector and a global provider of renewable energy solutions. Pöyry's services cover the entire lifecycle and all relevant aspects of nuclear energy i.e. from early development phases to construction, operation, decommissioning and spent fuel disposal.
