UN General Assembly Strongly Supports IAEA

Expressing its appreciation for "the twelve years of distinguished service" by Mohamed ElBaradei as Director General of the Agency, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution extending its best wishes to Yukiya Amano, the incoming Director General of the Agency and reaffirming "strong support for the indispensable role of the Agency in encouraging and assisting the development and practical application of atomic energy for peaceful uses, in technology transfer to developing countries and in nuclear safety, verification and security."

The General Assembly appealed to the UN Member States to continue to support the activities of the IAEA.
